About the Ontonagon Theater

Picture
Ontonagon Township Memorial Building
The Ontonagon Theater is located on the second floor of the Ontonagon Township Memorial Building above the township library and township offices. See Map and Directions tab.

Access
The auditorium can be reached by a staircase from the main entrance, by an outdoor staircase on the north (left) side of the building, or by a ramp from the south parking lot. Patrons who find stairs difficult to manage can be driven to the top of the ramp and enter the theater at floor level. To make this entrance available to anyone who may need it, the theater asks that no vehicles remain parked at the top of the ramp on performance days.

How You Can Support the Theater

Donate a Chair
Honor a special person or organization by purchasing one of the theater’s beautiful velvet chairs, inscribed with your dedication, for $250.00. Memorial chairs are a way to provide a lasting memorial for a loved one, and dedicating a chair to honor a living person tells them how much you  value them while they can enjoy it. By purchasing a chair, you're contributing to the theater in a way that many can enjoy.

Consider a Cash Donation
Although all workers and board members are unpaid volunteers, there is an outstanding debt on the theater lights, rigging, sound equipment, dressing rooms, and other construction necessary to make the theater operational. There are also ongoing costs for maintenance and utilities. Because of its volunteer structure, 100 per cent of monetary contributions to the theater are applied to the aforementioned expenses and are greatly appreciated. The Ontonagon Theater is recognized as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization by the IRS, so all donations to the theater (including seat purchases) are tax deductible.

Volunteer Your Time and Talent
Volunteers are always needed. Offer to take tickets or join a committee. Housekeeping is a never-ending job, and if you know anything about theater sound or lighting, we’d like to hear from you.

Attend Events
No show can be a success without an audience.

Spread the Word
Tell your friends, neighbors, and families when you enjoy an event at the theater or hear of an upcoming event that sounds interesting.

Community Use
The theater may be rented by organizations that want to use it for their fundraisers, events, or informational programming. There is a charge to use the theater, which helps the theater meet its overhead expenses.

If your group would like to use the theater, please contact Carol Reid, the theater's booking manager, for availability and to discuss the cost. If you decide to use the theater, you will be asked to complete a contract, provide proof of liability insurance, and pay the applicable fee. Carol can be reached at (906) 884-2985.
